I am Judy Smith and I've had needles and threads in my hands for as long as I can remember.  I'm an art and history educator who has been quiltmaking and teaching
quiltmaking since 1979. Quiltmaking originally fascinated me because of
the political and historical titles of the traditional blocks.  I came
to art quilting very early because of my passion for visual art and my
proclivity for taking "rules" and stretching them.

My current quiltmaking passions include sharing my enthusiasm through
teaching, designing quilts using Fibonacci numbers, painting and dyeing
fabric, exploring new techniques, and using quiltmaking techniques
in/on apparel.

Jan Gibson is the felting instructor for Artful Hands.  She has been a fiber artist for over 20 years and loves to experiment with fiber, including weaving, paper making, and most recently, felt making.  She has won a number of first place ribbons for her felted creations. Jan has studied feltmaking with renowned artists Polly Stirling, Pat Sparks and Sharon Costello.  She is a graduate of Lake Erie College and has studied at Cleveland Institute of Art, Piedmont Community College in North Caroline, Miami University in Oxford, OH, and the John Campbell School of Crafts in South Carolina.  Her affiliations include Textile Arts Alliance of the Cleveland Museum of Art, Western Reserve Spinners and Weavers, and Contemporary Cloth Artists.  Her artwork can be seen and purchased at Art Essence Gallery in Painesville, just a couple of doors down from Artful Hands Studio

Nancy Brunetz got interested in china painting about 35 years ago and for the last 10 years has been seriously involved in the art.  She takes lessons from as many teachers as she can and is also teaching the art.  She is a member of the Erie Shores Porcelain Artists, Akron Area China Painters, and the World Organization of China Painters.  For the last 4 years she has had one of my pieces chosen at our state show for display at the China Painters Museum in Oklahoma City.

Nancy has been knitting since she was a little girl and it is her second favorite thing to do after china painting .  For a long time sheI sold knitted pieces.  Now she is happy teaching the craft to others and knitting for herself and my family.
